Somerby

On the 17th September 1944 604 men of the 10th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment  parachuted into Arnhem.  2 weeks later 37 returned with the remainder either killed, wounded, taken PoW or starting on a long escape and evasion adventure.  Over the weekend 6th/7th September we will attend the commemorative service at Borough on the Hill to pay respect to the men of 10 PARA who were obliterated as a Battalion in Arnhem.  On the Saturday, we will meet for a ride in the area of Melton Mowbray, before linking up with Friends of the 10th at Borough on the Hill for the commemoration service and wreath laying.  Riders and Supporters will meet for a meal and social evening on the Saturday in Melton Mowbray.  On the Sunday morning, we will fall in at the rear of the parade, marching behind the pipes and drums and 10 PARA parade, through the village of Somerby to All Saints Church, to attend what is always a packed service of remembrance.  It is a very moving weekend.
